The Bead Monkey was founded in June of 1993, by owner Tina Lilja who had fallen in love with beading. At the age of 19, she chose to open The Bead Monkey in the well known and
trendy 50th and France shopping district in picturesque Edina, MN.
In November of 2002, the Edina store relocated just one block east of the 50th and France intersection, into Minneapolis. The "new" store is a bright and newly renovated 4200 square
feet space, still a destination of choice amongst the wonderful shops and restaurants in the neighborhood.
The St. Paul Bead Monkey opened in 1996 on Grand Avenue in a renovated building from the 1930's called Victoria Crossing. The historic Grand Avenue shopping district hosts some the
best restaurants, sight seeing, and shopping in the Twin Cities. In May 2002, our St. Paul Bead Monkey relocated into a spacious, new location, still within Victoria Crossing. We were
able to maintain our fabulous location, host two classroom spaces, and triple our inventory!
We have undergone many evolutions over the years to become the largest retail bead store in the Midwest. Our inventory includes everything a beader might need; come visit our retail
stores and enjoy the wide variety of Czech glass beads, Semi-precious stone, Sparkling Swarovski© Crystal beads and Freshwater pearls. We also carry Czech fire polish beads,
Antique German and Venetian beads, and American-made Lampwork from local and national artists.
We have a large assortment of Japanese and Czech seed beads and delicas, custom mixes of India glass beads, gold and silver base metal charms and a wide variety of base metal beads
and findings. We have a wide array of tools, stringing materials such as Softflex©, embellishing materials and one of the largest beading book libraries in the area.
Classes are a staple at The Bead Monkey. Each location has 2 spacious and well lit classrooms for bead classes, and special events like birthday parties for kids or adults!.
We pride ourselves in creating new and interesting classes each season. Our aim is to teach our customers how to make their own beaded jewelry with the best local and national
teachers. We also offer PMC certification.
